Handles and Knobs
To ensure product longevity of Stefano Orlati Handles and Knobs, please ensure that only a damp cloth is used with diluted, mild detergent to remove any stains or fingerprints.
Residue build-up may cause discolouration to the original finish. To avoid such damage, please wipe products with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. It is recommended that this is done regularly, and incorporated into general cleaning routine.
Do not use harsh solvents abrasive cleaners or scourers. This may affect protective coatings such as plating, powder coating and lacquer.
Stainless Steel is an alloy that contains at least 50% iron and 10% chromium. The chromium slows down the corrosion process and plays a key part in defining stainless steel. Generally the higher the chromium percentage the more corrosion resistance.
Stefano Orlati Stainless Steel products are Grade '304' which is a general purpose stainless and is the most common grade of stainless produced. It is made up of at least 18% chromium and 8% nickel offering good corrosion resistance.
304 Stainless Steel is best suited and recommended for indoor use only.
All grades of stainless steel can stain and discolour. Causes can be due to surface deposits or notebly under low-oxygen, high salinity or poor circulation environments. In order to achieve long life and maximum corrosion resistance, the surface of the stainless steel must be kept clean on a regular basis.
Stainless steel is easy to clean and with routine cleaning will prevent any stubborn stains from building. Regular washing with soap or mild detergent and warm water followed by a clear cold water rinse is adequate. Drying afterwards makes sure streaky marks aren't left behind.
For stubborn stains or discolouration such as Rust or "tea stains" a mild cleaning solution such as jif or cream cleanser can be applied.
When cleaning ensure the direction of the grain is followed. Rubbing against the grain can spoil the finish and the stainless will lose its shine. Another effect of rubbing against the grain can cause damage to the surface by creating microscopic crevices where dirt can collect. This can lead to corrosion spots. Always ensure the product is rinsed well and wiped dry afterwards.
